New leadership is stepping in to guide New Zealand’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission. Minister for Mental Health Matt Doocey announced the appointments on Friday, 31 October 2025. The update brings two new members, a new Deputy Chair, and two reappointments to the board that oversees how mental health and addiction services meet community needs.
Background
The Commission was formed in 2021 to keep the Government accountable for improving mental health care. It monitors whether services are accessible, fair, and effective. These appointments come at a time when the Government is working to expand crisis support and grow the mental health workforce.
