Auckland: India House came alive with sizzling pans, spice-laden aromas and a powerful idea that belongs to both the past and the future. In a women-led culinary showcase hosted by the Consulate General of India in Auckland with Wahine Charitable Trust, home chefs from across Aotearoa cooked with one common hero ingredient: millets.
What began as a friendly competition quickly turned into a community classroom. Participants demonstrated how tiny, climate-smart grains can become big flavors in everyday kitchens while supporting wellness and food security.
A table of unity with many states on one plate

The showcase featured dishes inspired by several Indian regions including Karnataka, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Adding special warmth to the evening, members of Bihar Jharkhand Sabha and the wider Uttar Pradesh Association community joined hands and brought the rustic charm of bajra, ragi and jowar to Auckland in the form of litti-style millet bakes, khichdi with seasonal greens, pearl millet rotis and sweet kheer variations.
