Introduction
Swiss food and beverage giant Nestlé has announced plans to cut 16,000 jobs worldwide over the next two years. The decision marks one of the company’s largest workforce reductions in recent history, as new Chief Executive Philipp Navratil moves to streamline operations and respond to changing global market conditions.
Background
Nestlé, best known for brands like Nescafé, Kit Kat, Purina, and Perrier, employs more than 270,000 people worldwide. The announcement follows a difficult period for the company, including leadership changes and a series of reputational challenges.
Navratil, who became CEO in September 2025 after the dismissal of his predecessor over workplace misconduct, said the company must “change faster” to remain competitive. His restructuring plan focuses on efficiency, cost control, and renewed emphasis on high-growth segments such as health and nutrition.
