Serving and former New Zealand Defence Force personnel will have an opportunity to discuss their support needs in person when Veterans’ Affairs visits Manukau this month.
Two sessions at the Due Drop Event Centre will bring Veterans’ Affairs staff together with veterans and their whānau from across Tāmaki Makaurau.
An evening session will begin at 7pm on Thursday, 15 October, followed by the main event from 10am to 2pm on Friday, 16 October.
Help understanding what support is available
The events are designed to help veterans understand their entitlements, discuss current or future needs, and explore changes to the support they or their families receive.
Head of Veterans’ Affairs Alexander Brunt says meeting staff face-to-face gives people an opportunity to ask questions and talk through their circumstances.
Veterans will also be able to speak with representatives from veteran support and community organisations.
The invitation extends to people still serving in the NZDF as well as those who have left the Defence Force. Family and whānau are welcome to attend alongside them.
Evening session offers another option
The Thursday evening session provides an alternative for people who cannot attend during working hours.
“We know it can be difficult for some people to attend events during the day because of work or other commitments. That’s why we’re once again offering an evening session the night before the main event,” Brunt says.
He encourages veterans at all stages of their service journey to come along and find out what assistance may be available.
