AUCKLAND, 19 July 2026

Auckland’s Indian community turned out in force on Saturday night as The Great Comedy Night, featuring popular Indian comedians Krushna Abhishek and Rajiv Thakur, delivered an energetic evening of stand-up comedy, music, dance and live entertainment.

The event was held at the Victory Convention Centre in Auckland on 18 July 2026 and attracted an estimated crowd of more than 1,500 people. The venue was packed, with nearly every seat occupied as audiences gathered to watch two familiar faces from Indian television perform live in New Zealand.

Webfit News attended the event as an official media partner and captured photographs, videos and highlights from throughout the evening.

A full house for Indian comedy in Auckland

Long queues formed outside the venue before the programme began, with a large number of guests arriving within a short period.

The strong turnout also created traffic and parking pressure around the convention centre. Some attendees had difficulty finding parking, while others waited outside as organisers worked to move the crowd through the entrance.

Despite the congestion, the atmosphere remained upbeat. Families, groups of friends, business owners, community representatives and comedy fans continued arriving well into the evening.

Inside the venue, the scale of the audience showed the growing demand for major Indian entertainment events in Auckland.

The crowd appeared ready not only for comedy, but for the complete live-event experience. From the opening performances to the final acts, the audience responded with applause, laughter and enthusiastic participation.

Local performers set the stage

Before the headline comedians appeared, several local performers entertained the audience through music and dance.

The programme gave Auckland-based artists an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience alongside established international entertainers. Their performances added variety to the evening and helped build momentum before the main comedy acts.

The event was supported by an extensive production team, including photographers, videographers, media representatives, technical crews, backstage workers, hospitality staff and volunteers.

Food and refreshments were also available as part of the wider event experience.

Rather than presenting comedy alone, the organisers created a mixed entertainment programme that brought together local talent, international performers and community participation.

Junoon Sharma impresses as master of ceremonies

A major contribution to the evening came from Junoon Sharma, who served as the master of ceremonies for The Great Comedy Night.

Hosting a sold-out show of this scale requires confidence, preparation, timing and the ability to keep a large audience engaged throughout the programme. Sharma handled the role with energy and professionalism, helping connect the different performances and maintain the momentum of the evening.

One of the most entertaining moments came when Sharma joined Rajiv Thakur for a comedy act on stage.

The spontaneous interaction was warmly received by the audience and showed her confidence in performing alongside an experienced and widely recognised comedian.

The act created a memorable local connection within the international show and added an unexpected element to the programme.

Sharma’s contribution went beyond introducing performers. She played an important role in guiding the audience through the evening, supporting the organisers and bringing her own personality to the stage.

Her ability to successfully carry out the hosting role while also participating in a comedy segment was an impressive achievement.

Webfit News congratulates Junoon Sharma for the effort, preparation and confidence she brought to the event. Her performance was encouraging, entertaining and an important part of the night’s overall success.

Rajiv Thakur connects with the audience

Rajiv Thakur brought his familiar stand-up style and confident stage presence to the Auckland audience.

Known for his work across Indian television, Punjabi entertainment and live comedy, Thakur has appeared in productions connected with Kapil Sharma and has built a strong reputation through character comedy, mimicry and observational humour.

During the Auckland performance, Thakur engaged directly with audience members and drew humour from everyday situations, relationships and community experiences.

His ability to react to the room helped create the feeling of a live and spontaneous performance rather than a routine delivered from a fixed script.

His on-stage interaction with Junoon Sharma was another highlight, bringing together international comedy experience and local presenting talent in a segment that was enjoyed by the audience.

For many people in attendance, seeing a comedian they had previously watched on television perform only a few metres away was a major attraction.

Krushna Abhishek delivers the headline performance

Krushna Abhishek received a warm response when he appeared on stage.

The Mumbai-based comedian, actor and television personality is widely recognised for his appearances in major Indian comedy and entertainment programmes, including The Kapil Sharma Show, The Great Indian Kapil Show and Comedy Circus.

His performance combined prepared comedy with audience interaction, expressions, physical humour and quick responses.

Abhishek’s ability to shift between characters, reactions and improvised moments kept the crowd engaged throughout his performance.

A surprise for many guests was the presence of actor and television personality Kashmera Shah, Krushna Abhishek’s wife, who had also travelled to Auckland and watched the programme from the audience.

Her attendance added another element of excitement, with several guests noticing and welcoming her during the evening.

Trivision Entertainment thanked for hosting the show

The programme was presented by Trivision Entertainment, led by owner Dharmendra Shyam.

Organising a major international event involves coordinating performers, international travel, accommodation, ticketing, venue operations, security, sponsors, marketing, media coverage and production teams.

The size of Saturday’s audience also created practical challenges, particularly outside the venue. However, Shyam and his team continued working to accommodate guests and keep the evening moving.

Their efforts helped bring two major Indian comedy performers to Auckland and provide a platform for local talent, community businesses and entertainment professionals.

Webfit News acknowledges Dharmendra Shyam and the Trivision Entertainment team for inviting the publication to participate as an official media partner and for supporting community-based media coverage of the event.

Sponsors and promotional teams recognised

Events of this scale depend heavily on commercial and community support.

Aashiq Homes, the title sponsor of The Great Comedy Night, played a prominent role in supporting the Auckland programme.

The organisers also acknowledged the wider group of sponsors, partners and businesses that contributed to the event.

Influencers and community promoters helped generate awareness before the show by sharing promotional videos, posters, interviews and ticket information across social media.

Their efforts contributed to the strong public response and helped the event reach audiences across Auckland’s Indian and South Asian communities.

The sold-out result demonstrated what can be achieved when organisers, sponsors, performers, businesses, influencers, presenters and community media work together around a major event.

Another opportunity to see Rajiv Thakur

People who missed Saturday’s show are expected to have another opportunity to see Rajiv Thakur perform in Auckland.

A separate event is scheduled for 23 July 2026 from 7pm at Chai Garden, 371 West Coast Road, Glen Eden.

Tickets are available through Tickety.co.nz.

Guests should check the ticketing platform or contact the organiser directly to confirm ticket availability and final event details before attending.

The smaller venue is likely to offer a different experience from the large convention-centre show, allowing audiences to enjoy Thakur’s stand-up comedy in a more intimate setting.

A memorable night for Auckland audiences

The Great Comedy Night was more than a visit by two television personalities.

It was a large community gathering that created opportunities for local performers, presenters, production professionals, sponsors, hospitality providers, photographers, videographers, influencers and media organisations.

Most importantly, it gave Auckland audiences an evening filled with laughter and shared entertainment.

The full house, repeated applause and strong audience engagement reflected the popularity of live Indian comedy in New Zealand.

For Trivision Entertainment and its partners, the sold-out show represented a significant achievement. For the audience, it was an opportunity to see Krushna Abhishek and Rajiv Thakur perform live without having to travel outside New Zealand.

The contribution of Junoon Sharma as master of ceremonies also deserves special recognition. Her confident hosting, entertaining stage presence and comedy interaction with Rajiv Thakur helped make the evening even more memorable.

Webfit News congratulates Dharmendra Shyam, the Trivision Entertainment team, Junoon Sharma, Aashiq Homes, all sponsors, local performers, crew members, influencers and volunteers who contributed to the success of The Great Comedy Night.

Photos and videos from The Great Comedy Night will be shared through Webfit News.
